Every Language Counts

Children who grow up with more than one language develop a unique ability to move between languages every day. It can show up later in school, in friendships, and in how naturally they pick up a third or even a fourth language. The foundations are built early in childhood. All it takes is play, encouragement, and plenty of opportunities to explore every language they hear.

Tornado Boom was created from a simple belief: languages shape the way we think, learn, imagine, and belong.

This game stands for a world where every language has value, every voice is part of the story, and every child feels confident exploring, speaking, and expressing themselves in the languages around them.

I grew up in a world where languages naturally overlapped. At home, I was surrounded by Serbo-Croatian; at school, by Slovenian, English, and Italian. Later, driven by curiosity and a genuine love of languages, I added Spanish to the mix.

Living with several languages from an early age shaped the way I understand language itself — not simply as a tool for communication, but as something that influences how we learn, connect with others, and develop a sense of belonging.

That personal experience of multilingualism has stayed at the heart of my work ever since.

  • Tornado Boom story

The idea behind Tornado Boom has its roots in a 40-hour English programme for preschool children, where I tested the Listen–Repeat–Say method.

Children who learned through this approach improved their vocabulary and phonological awareness by 50%, compared with a 30% improvement in the comparison group receiving conventional instruction.

Tornado Boom came to life a few years later, after I became a mother myself and began to see even more clearly how important play, language, and shared moments are in a child’s development. I wanted to turn the insights from my research and teaching experience into a simple, playful format that could be used by children, parents, and educators alike.
